NGC 1821 is an irregular galaxy of Hubble type IBm in the constellation Lepus the southern sky . It is estimated to be 155 million light years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 1832 .
The Type-IIn supernova SN 2002bj was observed here.
The object was on December 26, 1885 by Francis Preserved Leavenworth using a 18.7-inch - telescope discovered.
