NGC 1809 is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Dorado of the Hubble-type Sc in the southern sky , an estimated 50 million light years from the Milky Way . It was discovered on December 24, 1834 by John Herschel with a reflector with an 18.7 ″ aperture and was later listed by Dreyer in the New General Catalog .
