Walter Bauer (born January 2, 1922 in Linz ; † June 8, 2000 ) was an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ) and lawyer. From 1955 to 1985 he was a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag .

education and profession

Bauer attended grammar school in Linz and volunteered as a war volunteer immediately after eighth grade for deployment in the Second World War, initially with the air force and then with the assault artillery . During the war he was wounded several times and honored, whereby at the end of the war he held the rank of senior ensign on the Eastern Front. During the war, Bauer studied law for one semester while in a hospital in Innsbruck , continuing his studies after 1945 and pursuing it at the universities of Innsbruck and Vienna. He financed his studies in Innsbruck partly through his function as head of a jazz band and was later also part of the symphony orchestra in the Linz concert association. Bauer finally received his doctorate in law and after completing his court year joined the service of the Austrian Federal Railways.

In 1966 he was an employee and chief inspector of the Federal Railway (service title of salary group IXa) in the operations department of the Federal Railway Directorate in Linz . In 1968, the lawyer was head of the commercial department and central railway inspector (official title of salary group IXb) in the Linz Federal Railway Directorate . At least from 1977 to 1984 he was Vice President of the Linz Federal Railway Directorate, but relieved of his function as a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag.

Politics and functions

Bauer got involved in the staff representation of the Linz Railway Directorate, where he ran an independent list. In 1955 he stood for the Freedom Party in the state elections in Upper Austria and was subsequently sworn in as a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament on November 19, 1955. He was a member of the state parliament for five legislative periods and left the state parliament on October 27, 1985. In the state parliament he was a member of the committee for constitution and administration, a member of the committee for public welfare and a member of the committee for finance. Bauer was city party chairman of the FPÖ Linz, board member of the FPÖ regional group Upper Austria, head of the FPÖ press department, head of the Freedom Education Center and chairman of the Berg-Isel-Bund.

Private

Bauer was born as the son of the Federal Railroad official and conductor Leopold Bauer, although he was an orphan at the age of 16. He married Maria Höllinger and had a son.
