NGC 1797 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sa with extensive star formation areas in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 194 million light years from the Milky Way and about 95,000 light years across. Presumably it forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair with NGC 1799 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on February 13, 1887 .
