NGC 1819 is a lenticular galaxy with a high rate of star formation of the Hubble type SB0 in the constellation Orion in the northern sky . It is an estimated 197 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter. Together with four other galaxies, it forms the NGC 1819 group or LGG 130 .
The Type Ia supernova SN 2005el was observed here.
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on December 26, 1885 .
