NGC 1827 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Columba in the southern sky , which is an estimated 38 million light years away from the Milky Way .
It was discovered on November 28, 1837 by John Herschel with a reflector with an 18.7 ″ aperture and later listed by Dreyer in the New General Catalog .
