With the appointment of Doris Jakobsen and her deputy in the Folketing , Vittus Qujaukitsoq , as ministers, Nick Nielsen moved up to the Folketing in December 2014. As early as February 2015, his own party renounced his trust and Doris Jakobsen gave up her ministerial office to take his place in the Folketing. In response, he left the Siumut in March 2015 and became a member of the Inuit Ataqatigiit . He did not run for the 2015 Folketing election . He ran in the 2017 local elections, but was not elected to the council of Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq . He also did not participate in the 2018 parliamentary elections .
He completed his training as a graduate engineer in 2005. He later studied civil engineering at Danmarks Tekniske Universitet . In 2010 he was appointed director of facilities and the environment at Qaasuitsup Kommunia . After he later resigned as a minister, the municipality could no longer offer him a job as an employer, which led to a severance payment after a legal dispute.
