NGC 1824 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble-type SBm in the constellation Dorado in the southern sky , which is an estimated 47 million light-years away from the Milky Way .
It was discovered on December 26, 1834 by John Herschel with a reflector with an 18.7 ″ aperture and was later listed by Dreyer in the New General Catalog .
