NGC 1783 is a globular cluster in the constellation Dorado in the southern sky . At around 170,000 solar masses, the cluster is one of the largest in the Large Magellanic Cloud, and at 1.4 billion years old, it is one of the younger members of its class.
The object was discovered in 1835 by John Herschel with an 18.7-inch telescope and was later listed in the New General Catalog by Johan Ludvig Emil Dreyer .
