Sir Thomas Lewknor of Trotton († 1484 ) was an English knight .

Life

Sir Thomas Lewknor (also Lewkenor) was a son of Sir Roger Lewknor and Eleanor, a granddaughter of Thomas de Camoys, 1st Baron Camoys .

Sir Thomas served as sheriff in Surrey and Sussex counties from 1473–74 and as Knight of the Shire he represented Sussex in the House of Commons . As Knight of the Body, Lewknor belonged to the close circle of the household of King Edward IV.

Thomas Lewknor was during the coronation celebrations by Richard III. beaten to the Knight of the Bath .

Sir Thomas was one of the loyal followers of Edward IV, who opposed Richard III. rebelled in the fall of 1483 and he was largely responsible for the uprisings in Surrey and Kent.

Bodiam Castle , whose owner and Constable was Lewknor, was a retreat for Lewknor and other rebels who holed up there. In early 1484 a bounty of 300 marks or £ 10 was placed on Sir Thomas and other ringleaders, and the king commissioned Sir Richard Lewknor, an uncle of Sir Thomas, and others to besiege and take Bodiam Castle. The besieged surrendered the castle and a Bill of Attainder was imposed on Sir Thomas causing him to lose all his rights and property.

In the spring of 1484 Sir Thomas received pardon with the requirement to pay 1000 Marks in case of further misconduct and Sir Thomas had to live in a kind of house arrest in the household of his brother-in-law, Sir John Wood, who held the office of Lord High Treasurer .

According to some sources, Sir Thomas died in the summer of 1484, others report that he fought for Henry Tudor at the Battle of Bosworth in August 1485 .
