Thomas Loidl

Thomas Loidl (born August 25, 1964 in Bad Aussee , Styria ) is an Austrian diplomat . He was the Austrian ambassador to Vietnam from 2013 to 2017 .

Life

Thomas Loidl studied law and international relations at the University of Vienna and Georgetown University in Washington, DC He received his doctorate in law . He has a teaching position at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna .

Diplomatic career

From 1994 to 1996 he worked in the Austrian Foreign Ministry in the international law office and the General International Law department, interrupted from March to September 1995 by his first assignment abroad, which led him to work as an attaché at the Austrian embassy in Nigeria . From 1996 to 2000 he was first secretary of the embassy in the department for environmental and development matters of the permanent representation of Austria to the United Nations in Geneva . Then from 2000 to 2003 he moved to the embassy in Indonesia as counselor and first assignment . From 2003 to 2004, he was inside the Department of State Counselor in the North America Division of the Americas Division of Political Affairs, and from 2004 to 2009 he was Envoy Head of International Environmental Law and Economics in the State Department's International Law Office. From 2009 to 2013 he served as envoy and first assignee at the embassy in Japan .

In August 2013 Thomas Loidl was appointed Ambassador to Vietnam in Hanoi as the successor to Georg Heindl , who moved to the Consulate General in New York as Consul General . In September 2017 he was replaced there by Thomas Schuller-Götzburg .
