Thomas Meckel

Thomas Meckel (* 1981 ) is a German theologian .

Life

From 2001 to 2006 he studied Catholic theology at the Pontificia Università Gregoriana Rome and the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , where he graduated as a Dipl.-Theol. He completed his studies (2003–2007) in German, Catholic religious studies and educational sciences with the first state examination with distinction. Due to the vacancy of the chair (2007–2009) he took on additional tasks and independent teaching assignments at the seminar for canon law, church legal history and state church law of the Catholic Theological Faculty of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. From 2009 to 2011 he was a research assistant at the Chair of Canon Law of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . In 2010 he completed higher education didactic training (FBZHL) with the certificate university teaching . To the Dr. theol. he became in the winter semester 2010/2011 in Würzburg with the canon law and state church law work religious instruction in law. PhD in Perspectives on Catholic Church Law and German State Church Law . In 2011 he was appointed supervisor and examiner of admission papers for the first state examination for a teaching post at public schools. As an Academic Councilor , he taught from 2011 to 2014 at the Chair of Canon Law of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg. In 2012 he obtained a Master of Arts in Society, Law and Religion at the KU Leuven . In 2013 he completed his licentiate degree in canon law ( Lic. Iur. Can. ) At the KU Leuven as well as the Master of Canon Law . Since the 2013/2014 winter semester, he has been representing the subject of canon law at the Institute for Catholic Theology at the Otto Friedrich University in Bamberg . In the winter semester of 2014/2015 he had a teaching position for the exercise of church marriage law at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen Frankfurt . In the 2014/2015 winter semester, he completed his habilitation at the Catholic Theological Faculty of Würzburg and acquired the qualification to teach canon law, church legal history and state church law. From February to March 2015 he was Academic Senior Counselor at the Chair for Canon Law of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg. He represented the chair for canon law at the Philosophical-Theological University Sankt Georgen Frankfurt from April 2015 to August 13, 2015, when he took it over.

His research interests / focus are theological foundations of canon law / legal theology, constitutional law, proclamation law, sacraments, state church law / religious law, legal perspectives and development opportunities for religious education in schools and church legal history.

From October 1, 2018 to November 15, 2018, Meckel was acting head of the Sankt Georgen University of Applied Sciences. He has been the university's prorector since October 1, 2018.
