Markus JJ Graulich SDB (born August 13, 1964 in Hadamar ) is a German religious and canon lawyer .

Life

Markus Graulich grew up in Niedertiefenbach . He joined the order of the Salesians of Don Bosco on August 15, 1984 in Jünkerath . He studied social pedagogy and Catholic theology at the Benediktbeuern theological faculty . He was ordained a priest on June 25, 1994 and initially worked in pastoral care in Essen . After doctoral studies in 1999 he was at the Pontifical Salesian University for Dr. iur. can. PhD . In 2004 he completed his habilitation with a paper on Gottlieb Söhngen from Ilona Riedel-Spangenberger at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz .

Markus Graulich was director of the Istituto storico di diritto Canonico (Institute for the History of Canon Law) and Professor of Fundamental Issues and History of Canon Law at the Pontifical University of the Salesians in Rome. He was also the deputy dean of the Faculty of Canon Law.

He was a participant in the XI., XII. and the XIII. Ordinary general assembly of the Synod of Bishops and there responsible for the synod reporting in German.

On June 19, 2009 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed as ecclesiastical attorney (Promotor iustitiae) to the Supreme Court, the Apostolic Signature , and on December 22nd, 2009 also as Consultor for the Permanent General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops . In April 2011 Graulich was appointed consultor of the Pontifical Council for the legal texts . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on December 30, 2011 as auditor (judge) at the Roman Rota . He was the successor of Josef Huber as a representative of the German-speaking area in the judges' college of the Rota and thus received the rank of prelate himself .

Pope Francis appointed Graulich as Undersecretary of the Pontifical Council for Legal Texts on May 22, 2014. A German-speaking judge at the Rota was only appointed three years later with the Freiburg canon lawyer Hans-Peter Fischer .
