Ilona Riedel-Spangenberger

Ilona Riedel-Spangenberger (born November 5, 1948 in Duisburg , † July 16, 2007 in Mainz ) was a German theologian . She was Professor of Canon Law , State Church Law and Church Legal History at the Faculty of Catholic Theology of the Trier Theological Faculty and the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz .

biography

She did her doctorate with Horst Herrmann as Dr. theol. at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and in Rome for Dr. iur. can. After studying Catholic theology, classical philology and philosophy from 1967 to 1972, she worked as a department head for canon law and ecumenical issues for the diocese of Münster . At the same time she held a lectureship for canon law at the University of Osnabrück from 1982 on .

Her habilitation in canon law took place in Trier in 1988 , where she also took up her first full professorship for canon law at the theological faculty in 1990 . From 1992 to 1993 she was also dean of the theological faculty.

In 1996 she was appointed to Mainz , where she has held the chair for canon law, state church law and ecclesiastical legal history since then. Between 2003 and 2005 she was also vice dean there .

The lexicon for ecclesiastical and state church law , which she has developed and edited, is of outstanding importance .

Ilona Riedel-Spangenberger died on July 16, 2007 at the age of 58.

Her group of students includes the Würzburg Professor Heribert Hallermann and the Rota judge Markus Graulich .
