Thomas Nagel

Thomas Nagel (* 1962 ) is a German graphic designer who is best known as a typographer .

Life

Nagel completed his studies in visual communication (1982–1987) at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach am Main under Friedrich Friedl . He is a member of the German Design Council and the ICSID "Roster of Experts" (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design).

  • 1985–1988 designer at Olaf Leu Design Frankfurt.
  • 1988–1994 project manager and designer at MetaDesign in Berlin and San Francisco ( Erik Spiekermann ).
  • 1998 foundation of mind21 factory for knowledge engineering, together with Alexander Branczyk and Georg Flachbart .
  • 1994 Foundation of the experimental typography collaboration Face2Face
  • Since 1994 partner and managing director of the design company xplicit in Frankfurt am Main / Berlin
  • 2000 teaching position at the Merz Academy Stuttgart
  • 2008 teaching position at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart
  • 2009/2010 teaching assignment at the AVA, Academy of Visual Arts, Frankfurt

Nagel designed a number of electronic alphabets such as F2F El Dee Cons, F2F HogRoach or F2F Pixmix. He is one of the modern representatives of experimental typography in the field of new techno fonts.
