Olaf Leu (born July 28, 1936 in Chemnitz ) is a German graphic designer and creator.

biography

Olaf Leu completed his training as a typesetter . He worked as a typographic designer in the artistic studio of the Bauer foundry , and also as assistant to the creative director in the Hanns W. Brose advertising agency in Frankfurt am Main . In 1959 he started his own business as a graphic designer and art director . From 1971 to 1991 he was general secretary of the German section of the International Center for the Typographic Arts (ICTA). In 1971 he founded the Olaf Leu Design studio in Frankfurt am Main, which existed until 1991.

During this time, one of his priorities was the typographic design of calendars, among others for the clients Porsche , Farbenfabrik Gebr. Schmidt , Zanders Papier and Gebr. Klingspor . From 1975 to 1976 he taught visual communication at the Chilean University of Valparaiso and from 1982 to 1984 at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design typography. Since 1991 he has been mainly active internationally, e. B. Speaker of the Goethe Institute and a sought-after jury member. He gives lectures and seminars in Europe, South and North America, India, Australia and New Zealand. As a university lecturer, he has shaped a number of designers to this day.

For his life's work he was awarded honorary membership of the German Designer Club in 2000, of which he was a founding member in 1989.
