Thomas Niu Hui-qing

Thomas Niu Hui-qing ( Chinese  牛 會 卿 , Pinyin Niú Huìqīng , W.-G. Niu Hui-ching ; born September 18, 1895 in Xian (Cangzhou) ; † February 28, 1973 ) was a Chinese Roman Catholic clergyman, bishop of Yanggu and Apostolic Administrator in China and Taiwan .

Life

Niu was ordained a priest on September 30, 1923. From 1943 he was Vicar Apostolic of Yanggu and Titular Bishop of Sertei . In 1946 the Holy See appointed him Bishop of Yanggu. From 1948 to 1969 he was Apostolic Administrator of the Chiayi Apostolic Prefecture in Taiwan and from 1948 until his death in 1973 Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Funing in the Chinese province of Fujian . After his flight from China due to political circumstances in February 1951, however, he only held this office in name.

Niu attended three sessions of the Second Vatican Council in Rome between 1962 and 1965 .
