Thomas Ott (born June 10, 1966 in Zurich ) is a Swiss comic artist . His comics were and will be a. published in the United States , Spain , Denmark, and Italy .

biography

After graduating from the Zurich School of Design in 1987, he worked as a cartoonist in Zurich and Paris. In 1989 his first book Tales of Error was published by Edition Moderne . It was followed by other books by the same and the French publisher L'Association . He worked for Strapazin , Lapin , L'Écho des Savanes and various newspapers , among others . In 1996 he won the Max and Moritz Prize at the Erlangen Comic Salon as "best German-speaking comic artist".

From 1998 to June 2001, Ott studied film at the Zurich University of Art and Design . His diploma film was the 15-minute Sjeki vatcsh! .

The media praised Ott: he played skillfully “with set pieces from crime novels, series noir and horror. For Ott, the genres of popular culture such as fairy tales are 'a generally valid basis in which everyone can recognize themselves' ”. In 2013 a new work was released after three years: Dark Country is the story of a nightmarish honeymoon and is an independent adaptation of the 2008 film of the same name by the scriptwriter Tab Murphy and the director and Hollywood actor Thomas Jane ( The Punisher ). Jane herself asked Ott to tell his film as a comic.

In 2017, Ott won the Grand Prix Design for his life's work at the Swiss Design Awards.
