Thomas Perrenot de Granvelle
Thomas Perrenot de Granvelle (born June 4, 1521 in Besançon , † February 1571 in Antwerp ) was a Spanish diplomat in London, Paris and Vienna.
Life
His father was Nicolas Perrenot de Granvelle . His siblings were Antoine Perrenot de Granvelle , Friedrich Perrenot de Champagney (* 1536 † 1600, 1571 Governor of Antwerp, 1578-84 imprisoned for favoring the uprising of the Geusen .) Thomas Perrenot de Granvelle carried the titles of Count of Cante-Croix and Lord by Chantonnay (Spanish: Señor de Chantonnay). He was friends with Maximilian II .
Charles V sent him to Henry VIII of England as Ambassador to the Court of St James’s in 1543 . The conflict with Wilhelm von Jülich-Kleve-Berg was one of the diplomatic issues .
Also in 1547 he took over the delegation of Charles V to the privy council of the underage king Edward VI. from England.
On September 10, 1549 he married Helene van Brederode (* 1527 - † May 6, 1572 in Antwerp).
Philip II of Spain sent him to Charles IX from 1560 to 1564 . from France to Paris. In 1665 Philip II sent him to Vienna to see Emperor Maximilian II. In 1570 he was called off sick by Philip II from the embassy post in Vienna. His diplomatic post from 1560 to 1570 was found in Brussels and documents a Catholic zealot and staunch enemy of the Huguenots .
