Thomas Raiser

Thomas Raiser (born February 20, 1935 in Stuttgart ) is a German law scholar and former professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Life

Raiser, son of the insurance manager Rolf Raiser , studied philosophy and classical philology at the universities of Tübingen , Bonn , Munich and the Free University of Berlin from 1954 . In the summer semester of 1954 he became a member of the student association AV Igel Tübingen . He later studied law and passed his first state examination in law in 1959 in Tübingen. In 1962 he received his doctorate in Tübingen at Ernst Steindorff Dr. iur. Then Raiser completed his legal clerkship and passed his second state examination in Stuttgart in 1964. As a result, he initially worked as a lawyer before returning to his academic career in 1965 and working as a research assistant at the University of Hamburg . In 1969 he completed his habilitation there and received the venia legendi for the subjects civil law, commercial law, business law, comparative law and legal sociology.

From October 1970 to September 1992, Raiser was a full professor of civil law, commercial and economic law and legal sociology at the University of Giessen . From 1977 to 1992 he was also a part-time judge at the Higher Regional Court in Frankfurt am Main . From 1992 until his retirement in October 2002, Raiser was Professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Thomas Raiser has been a visiting professor repeatedly during his academic career , including at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and the University of Tokyo . Since 1992 he has also been heavily involved in cooperation with China, where he stayed several times and held lectures. 2010 he was for his services from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology of the honorary professorship awarded.
