Thomas Rother (born October 13, 1959 in Lübeck ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After completing secondary school , Rother completed training in administration at the city of Lübeck from 1976 to 1979 and then worked there as an administrative clerk until 1983. He then attended the University of Economics and Politics in Hamburg , which he graduated in 1986 with a degree in business administration and in 1988 with a degree in social economics. Then Rother worked as an administrative clerk in the interior authority of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. In 1992 he returned to his hometown Lübeck and was managing director of the SPD parliamentary group in the Lübeck citizenship until 2000 .

On June 13, 1995, Rother was injured in the hand by a letter bomb addressed to the deputy mayor Dietrich Szameit. The attack was carried out by the Austrian bomb bomber Franz Fuchs , who from 1993 to 1997 committed numerous similar acts out of a racist and xenophobic motivation.

Thomas Rother is married.

Political party

Rother joined the SPD in 1977 and has headed the state working group "Internal Security and Police" of the SPD in Schleswig-Holstein since 2002 . Thomas Rother has been the district chairman of the SPD Lübeck since 2014.

Member of the state parliament

Rother has been a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament since 2000 .

Thomas Rother entered the state parliament in 2000 as a directly elected member of the Lübeck-Nord constituency and in 2005 as a directly elected member of the Lübeck-West constituency . In the state elections in 2005 he received 49.6% of the first votes . In the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein in 2009 he was re-elected with 38.2% of the first votes. In the early state elections in 2012 , he received 45.4% of the first votes in the Lübeck-Ost constituency and was directly elected. In the Lübeck-Ost constituency, Rother again won the direct mandate with 37.1% of the first votes in the 2017 state election .

In the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament, Thomas Rother is currently chairman of the finance committee, deputy member of the home and legal affairs committee and spokesman for judicial policy for the SPD parliamentary group.
