Thomas Peter Schmid (born December 19, 1959 in Munich ) is a German church musician , composer and undertaker .

Life

Schmid was already active as an organist in and around Munich in his youth; in 1979 he received his first employment contract at the Maria Ramersdorf parish and pilgrimage church in Munich. During his studies of Catholic church music at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, he was choir director in Ottobrunn from 1981 to 1996 , and has been choir director at St. Peter and Paul in Munich-Trudering since 1996 . He is the permanent leader of several choir communities; In 1981 he founded the Chamber Choir Capella Mediaevalis Munich , with which numerous recordings and live broadcasts with the Bavarian Radio have been made. Since 1983 he has been the director of the male choir Sängerkreis Ottobrunn . Schmid has been a freelancer for Bayerischer Rundfunk since 1988 in the field of broadcast design and moderation . Schmid works as a composer, editor and lecturer for several publishing houses, co-author of children's books, lecturer and emcee. He wrote numerous arrangements and music for the recording of radio plays and song albums for children such as the annual market in Rummelsbach , Räuber Hotzenplotz and Urmel-Abenteuer , which the Hohenbrunner lieder rascals , which he directed for 18 years , helped to record . Together with Egon L. Frauenberger he developed the new music genre Bavarian Gospel .

Together with Inge Maria Krämer and his son Alexander Schmid, both qualified undertakers, he runs a funeral home with branches in Munich, Ottobrunn, Markt Schwaben, Landshut, Altdorf, Furth and Essenbach.

Thomas Schmid is voluntarily and culturally committed: In order to support an initiative by Susanne Pechel , he volunteered the musical direction and the arrangement of many for the CD production Lobe den Herren des Bayerischen Rundfunks; the sales proceeds made it possible to build a hospital in the Dominican Republic. He initiated and established three concert series in the Trudering district of Munich. The Great Truderinger New Year's Concert has been under his direction , since 2000 with over 100 participants; the summer concert in the open air in the Truderinger vicarage of St. Peter and Paul, which closes with a fireworks display and the autumn concert Ruhn in Frieden all souls . There is no entrance fee for any of these concerts. Since 2006 he has been organizing Christmas benefit concerts in Munich's Heilig-Geist-Kirche for the benefit of the Münchner Tafel .
