Thomas Stanford
Thomas G. Stanford (* 1924 in Germany ; † December 23, 2017 in Santa Fe , New Mexico ) was an American film editor who won the Oscar for best editing at the 1962 Academy Awards .
Life
Stanford began his career as an editor in the Hollywood film industry in 1955 with a film adaptation of Don Giovanni and was involved in the production of 25 films and television series by 1988.
In 1962 he won the Oscar for best editing for the dance film West Side Story (1961) by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins with Natalie Wood , Richard Beymer and Russ Tamblyn in the lead roles.
One of his assistant editors in the mid-1960s was Neil Travis , who won the 1991 Oscar for best editing.
