Musical development

Stelzer completed a five-year piano course and found blues music at an early age. His musical role models include Professor Longhair , Dr. John , Buddy Guy and Vince Weber . He wrote his first own blues songs during his apprenticeship.

In 1990 he founded the Thomas Stelzer Trio . The founding line-up included Stelzer (piano, vocals), Matthias Peuker (drums) and the saxophonist Burkhard Schmidt. After Schmidt left the formation in 1998, Stelzer and Peuker were accompanied by various guest musicians. The Thomas Stelzer Trio now includes Bernd Kleinow ( blues harp ) and Christoph Dehne (drums).

The Thomas Stelzer Superband , founded in 1994, is another current band project. The band includes the four-piece wind section with Rainer Bemmann, Jürgen Heinzmann, Ive Kanew and Michael Winkler. The guitarist is Georg Hammer, the bass is played by Tim Schröder and Matthias Peuker is on the drums.

Further projects are the Bloody Rhythm Fingers with Bernd Kleinow and Lutz Kowalewski , the bands The Burnes and The Farmer's Breakfast Country Band and, until 2013, the choir The Gospel Passengers .

Stelzer traveled to many European countries for guest performances. A stay in the US took him to New Orleans , where he and Buddy Guy, Dr. John and Levon Helm performed. In addition, Stelzer took part in renowned festivals at home and abroad, including in Dresden , Bellinzona and Notodden . His latest album is called Jahresringe . It only contains previously unreleased songs from 1980 to 1989.
