Thomas Thomassen Heftye

Thomas Thomassen Heftye (born April 10, 1860 in Vestre Aker , Norway , † September 19, 1921 in Trondheim , Norway) was a Norwegian officer and politician of the Liberals ( Venstre ). He served twice as Secretary of Defense for several months in 1903 and 1908.

Life

Heftye was a graduate of the Military Academy " Krigsskolen " of the Norwegian Army in Oslo . From 1900 to 1902 he served as a military attaché in Paris for the Norwegian-Swedish Union .

He was a member of the Interallied Voting Commission for Schleswig (CIS) during the referendum (1920) under the Versailles Treaty . The CIS consisted of the British President Sir Charles Marling , the French Paul Claudel and the Swede Oscar von Sydow . Another seat was available to the United States but was not occupied.

He was also a member of the Norwegian Olympic Committee and also a member of the International Olympic Committee .

Heftye was killed in 1921 with several prominent Norwegians in the Nidareid railway accident one day after the opening ceremony of a railway section.
