Thomas Woerdehoff
Thomas Heinrich Wördehoff (* 1953 in Kierspe ) was director of the Ludwigsburg Palace Festival from 2009 to 2019 .
Life
Wördehoff studied musicology , German and English in Frankfurt am Main . He has worked at the Hamburg State Opera , the Stuttgart State Opera , the Frankfurt Opera , the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Paris Opera and the Bregenz and Salzburg Festivals . He worked with theater personalities such as Luc Bondy , Jürgen Flimm , William Forsythe , Hans Neuenfels and John Neumeier .
In 1986 Wördehoff began working as a freelance author and editor and later as head of the feature pages of the Swiss newspaper Weltwoche . He left there in February 2001 at his own request. In 1995 he received the criticism award of the cultural fund of the state capital Salzburg. One of his reviews appeared on August 28, 1995 in the newspaper Der Spiegel under the title Maestro take over! , in which he reported about the star conductor Lorin Maazel .
Under the directorship of Gerard Mortier and Jürgen Flimm, Wördehoff shaped the program of the Ruhrtriennale festival in North Rhine-Westphalia from 2001 to 2008 as chief dramaturge . Since October 2009 he has directed the Ludwigsburg Palace Festival. In 2015, his contract as director of the Palace Festival was extended to summer 2019. In 2019 he said goodbye as artistic director. His successor is Jochen Sandig .
