Thongbanh Sengaphone (born May 2, 1953 in Thouai Beang , Bolikhamsai Province , † May 17, 2014 in Ban Nadi , Xieng Khouang Province ) was a Laotian politician.

Life

In the spring of 2005, Sengaphone was appointed Minister of Public Security and held the post until his death in May 2014. Previously, Thongbanh held the offices of Governor of Bolikhamsay Province and the "Special Zone" Sieng Hon-Hongsa. During this time he was a senior member of the National Rural Development Committee of Bolikhamsay Province.

Sengaphone belonged to the Lao Loum ethnic group .

Sengaphone and 19 other politicians died in a plane crash on their way to a celebration to mark the 55th anniversary of the liberation of Xieng Khouang Province . The AN-74-300 of the Lao People's Army crashed on May 17, 2014 at 6:30 am local time in Ban Nadi Village, Paek District, Xieng Khouang Province, and burned out completely. Among the fatalities were, in addition to Sengaphone, the governor of Vientiane , Soukanh Mahalath , the deputy Cheuang Sombounkhanh of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the defense minister of Laos, Douangchay Phichit . Only three of the 22 passengers on board survived the crash in Xieng Khouang Province.
