Vilhelm Thoralf Strømstad (born January 13, 1897 in Bærum , † January 10, 1984 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian skier who competed in cross-country skiing and Nordic combined .

Career

Strømstad celebrated its first successes at national level. So he won the title in Nordic Combined at the Norwegian Championships in 1919 . Three years later at the Norwegian Championships in 1922 he secured the title in cross-country skiing over 30 km.

At the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix , Strømstad won silver twice. Over 50 kilometers he had to admit defeat only Thorleif Haug with a time of 3:46:23 h . In the Nordic Combined , he jumped the greatest distance in the first jump. Together with the third best jump in the second round, he reached second place in jumping. With the third fastest time in the subsequent cross-country skiing over 18 kilometers, he achieved second place in the overall standings and thus won the silver medal again behind Thorleif Haug.

As early as 1923 he was awarded the Holmenkollen Medal for his achievements in skiing .
