Scientific career

Thorsten Reusch received his doctorate in 1994 at the Institute for Marine Science IFM in Kiel and then studied until 1997 as part of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and with the help of a DFG research grant at the Coastal Marine Institute San Diego , USA . He continued his studies until 1999 with a Marie Curie grant at the University of Groningen , the Netherlands . Between 1999 and 2001 he worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Limnology in Plön . Thorsten Reusch received a further grant (Heisenberg grant from the German Research Foundation) from 2002 to 2005 for his research at the Max Planck Institute for Limnology in Plön. In 2005 he was offered a professorship for evolutionary ecology of plants at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster, at the Institute for Evolution & Biodiversity. In September 2008 he became head of the Evolutionary Ecology Research Unit of Marine Fish and he received a professorship for Marine Ecology at the Leibniz Institute for Marine Sciences , today's GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research in Kiel . Since January 2012 he has been Head of Research Area 3 Marine Ecology and a member of the Board of Excellence in the Future Oceans Cluster of Excellence .

Research interests

In relation to his research, Thorsten Reusch is very interested in the topics of evolutionary biology and population genetics , marine genomics , biological effects of global change, marine invasion biology and host-parasite interactions.
