The Trakya Üniversitesi ( German : University of Thrace ) was founded on July 20, 1982 with the three faculties for medicine, architecture and engineering in Edirne - in the western border triangle of Turkey. Their facilities are spread over several locations in the city. The new rectorate building with an attached congress center was opened on the main campus in 2011.

There are departments for healthcare, music, languages, sports and tourism for the acquisition of bachelor’s degrees.

The master’s and doctoral studies are carried out in cooperation with the affiliated institutes that conduct scientific research in health, natural and social sciences.

Networks

The network of Balkan universities (BAUNAS), which held its 2010 annual conference at Trakya University, consists of over 60 universities in the Balkans . The rectorate with Erhan Tabakoğlu leads the general secretariat of the BAUNAS network.

As part of the European Erasmus program, there are bilateral contracts with universities in Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, England, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Spain and Hungary.

Since 2006, students have also been exchanged with the university in Lörrach as part of the EU Erasmus program. The university's goal of promoting German as the second most important foreign language alongside English has led to the local involvement of the Goethe Institute since April 2008 , funded by the Robert Bosch Stiftung (2008–2011) and FH Aachen (since 2012), a German coordinator Engaged in the area of ​​regional studies and intercultural communication and intercultural learning (Almanya Buluşma Noktasi = Germany meeting point ). The mutual commitment of professors from the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University Lörrach ( Bernd Martin , Manfred G. Rectors

In August 2012, Yener Yörük succeeded Enver Duran , who could no longer be elected after two rectorate terms. In July 2016, Erhan Tabakoğlu was elected by the responsible body as the new rector of the university and confirmed for this office by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan .
