Thrasivoulos Zaimis ( Greek Θρασυβούλος Ζαΐμης , * 29 October July / 10 November 1822 greg. In Kalavrita ( Achaia ); † 27 October July / 8 November 1880 greg. ) Was a Greek politician and Prime Minister .

Family and studies

Zaimis was the son of the freedom fighter and President of the Provisional Government from 1826 to 1827, Andreas Zaimis . He completed a law degree in France . His son Alexandros Zaimis was also Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Greece and Prime Minister and State President of the first Hellenic Republic.

Political career

Zaimis began his political career in 1850 with the election to the National Assembly (Voulí ton Ellínon) . In the course of his parliamentary work, the latter elected him its President four times.

He later served as a minister in various governments several times. In 1864 he was a representative in negotiations with Great Britain which, after the coronation of King George I, led to the Ionian Islands being annexed to Greece.

From January 25th jul. / February 6, 1869 greg. until July 9th jul. / July 21, 1870 greg. as well as from October 28th jul. / November 9th 1871 greg. until December 25, 1871 jul. / January 6, 1872 greg. he was prime minister.
