The Throphu Kagyu School is one of the eight small schools of the Kagyu school tradition of Tibetan Buddhism . It was founded by Phagmo Drupa Dorje Gyelpos pupil Gyeltsha Rinchen Gön (Tib .: rgyal tsha rin chen mgon ; 1118–1195). An important translator of this tradition was the Throphu Lotsawa Champa Pel (Tib .: khro phu lo tsA ba byams pa dpal ; 1173-1225), who worked in the Throphu monastery in the area of Tsang ( Sa'gya district , Xigazê ). His conversations were written down and in a text from them, the Hundred Upadeśhas , Gampopa's teaching on the Five Part Mahamudra Path is transmitted. In the middle of the 19th century, Jamgön Kongtrül Lodrö Thaye then collected various orally transmitted teachings, including those of the Kagyu, and published them in his book Treasure of Oral Instructions (Tib .: gdams ngag mdzod ). The teachings of the Throphu-Kagyu were largely absorbed by those of other Kagyu schools.

The founder of the Shalu tradition , Butön Rinchen Drub , was initially trained in the Throphu Kagyü School.
