Tiberius Lambergen

Tiberius Lambergen (* 1717 in Reitsum; † June 9, 1763 in Groningen ) was a Dutch medic and botanist .

Life

His father was the later preacher in Dokkum Otto Lambergen. After attending the Latin school in Dokkum, Lambergen began studying philosophical and medical sciences at the University of Franeker in 1736 . After being there on May 31, 1740 for Doctor of Medicine doctorate was, he went two years after suffering to expand his knowledge. There he attended in particular the lectures of Willem Jacob 's Gravesande and the professors of the medical faculty. He then worked as a doctor in Leeuwarden and was appointed professor of medicine at the University of Franeker on December 13, 1749, where he did not give his inaugural address Oratio de amico historiae naturalis cum medicina connubio (Franeker 1751) until April 28, 1751 .

In 1753 he was appointed professor of medicine, chemistry and botany at the University of Groningen , which he took up on June 12, 1754 with the speech Oratio exhibens encomia botanices eiusque in re medica utilitatem singularem (Groningen 1754). Lambergen seems to have designed his lectures with a Lectio inauguralis sistens ephemeridem persanti carciomatis (Groningen 1754). He paid particular attention to the botanical garden in Groningen. He became famous when he was looking for a cure for breast cancer , which he had made from a plant extract and tried on himself. He later gave this drug to a woman who had breast cancer. Lambergen also took part in the organizational tasks of the Groningen University and was rector of his alma mater in 1757/1758. However, his rectorate speech did not appear in print.

On June 13, 1749 he had married Antoinette Werners, widow of his mentor. His wife survived and married in 1767.
