Tibor Házi
Tibor Házi (born February 9, 1912 , † 1999 ) was a Hungarian table tennis player who was three times team world champion.
Career
Tibor Házi was born with the name Tibor Hoffman , but because of the anti-Semitic mood in Hungary in the interwar period, some Jewish Hungarian players Magyarized their German-sounding surnames. Therefore he changed his name to Tibor Házi .
From 1931 to 1938 he was nominated by the Hungarian Association for all eight world championships . In 1937 he married the Hungarian national table tennis player Magda Gál . In March 1939 the couple emigrated to the United States because they feared problems in Europe because of their Jewish origins. On a tour through several American cities, they showed their skills in exhibition fights. They became American citizens in November 1941. Even after the Second World War , they did not return to Hungary. They lived in Bethesda, Maryland .
In 1954, Tibor Házi took part in a world championship again under the American flag.
