Location and surroundings

The Tiefrastenhütte is located next to the Tiefrastensee in the upper Winnebachtal , a northern side valley of the Pustertal . It is located on the territory of the municipality of Terenten .

The easiest ascent to the hut is through the Winnebach valley to the north. Located on the Pfunderer Höhenweg , it serves as a base for hikes to the surrounding mountains, for example to the Eidechsspitze , Hochgrubbachspitze or Kempspitze . To the east you can reach Mühlwald from here . If you follow the path to the northwest over the Hochsägescharte to the Passenjoch, you can descend from there to the west to Pfunders and to the northeast to Lappach .

history

The first hut at Tiefrastensee was built in 1912 by the Brixen section of the DuÖAV as the Fritz-Walde-Hütte . It owes its name to a Brixen merchant who, as a member of the section, had made a special contribution to the construction of the shelter. After it had been cultivated for the first time in the summer months of 1913 and 1914, the beginning of the First World War ended its alpine use for the time being. After the end of the war, the Italian state expropriated the Alpine Club and handed the hut over to the Club Alpino Italiano , which ran it until the Second World War . In 1944 it was first looted and then destroyed by fire. In 1975, the section Brixen and the local offices began Terenten and Vintl the Alpine Club South Tyrol , to build a new building on the same site. In 2004 a renovation took place.
