The Tikka M65 is a bolt action rifle that was produced by the Finnish manufacturer Oy Tikkakoski Ab (Tikka) , a later subsidiary of Sako . Common components of all M65 models are the locking system with two locking lugs, safety device, adjustable trigger and removable magazine .

history

Tikka has been known for developing and manufacturing weapons since the company was founded in 1893, even though bolt-action rifles were only part of its activities. Tikka continued to develop and build weapons based on the Russian Mosin-Nagant rifle until 1944 . The model history of the M65 begins in the post-war period with the chief developer Toivo Pirttimäki, who had a decisive influence on Tikka rifles until the 1990s. From September 1967 the Tikka M76 rifle with the calibers 7 × 57 mm , .308 Win and .243 Win was presented as the first post-war model. Regarding the scope of production, it is known that in 1968 the serial numbers 10001 to 10554 and in 1969 the serial numbers 110000 to 115000 were assigned. From 1968 other calibers became available and the rifle was given the model designation LSA55 and later M55.

The M65 model series was first introduced in 1969 with the LSA65 model and called the M65 in variants. The rifle received a modified breech and a larger magazine to be able to use cartridges of larger calibers. The available twist lengths were tailored to the different calibers. Different shafts were offered for right and left handers .

The models have the names: Deluxe, Heavy-Barrel, Sporter, Standard, Supersporter, Trapper, Varmint and wild boar pattern. Manufactured by Oy Tikkakoski Ab. Technical data for a typical standard example: 6.5x 55mm, rimless. 1,080mm in total, 3.40kg unloaded. 560 mm barrel, 4-groove rifle; right, concentric. Detachable box magazine, 5 rounds. Optical visor. 780 m / s with a 9.3 gram bullet.

1970 *: That was a little more than a Model 55 that was expanded to a larger chamber. The clamping point cover was lengthened due to the longer firing pin travel and the screw handle base was smoothed.

Free floating barrels promoted excellent accuracy. Five-round magazines were standard.

1977 *: Available in 30-06 or 308 Winchester, the wild boar model (sometimes known as the "Trapper" in North America) had a 520mm barrel and quarter-rib sight. The pistol grip cap and fore-end tip were made of rosewood, but no spacers were used.

1978 *: The Tikka 65 Sporters (only 6-5 x 55mm, 270, 30-06 or 308) are introduced. Many of the rifles, often known as "Heavy Barrel" or "Varmint", especially in North America, were fitted with the wooden bumper plates required for exercise competitions. The athletes were 1,110 mm tall, had 600 mm runs and weighed 4-5 kg.

1979: 7 x 64mm, 7mm Remington Magnum and 300 Winchester Magnum chambers were added.

In 1983 * the Tikka 65 Super Sporter appeared. Except for a longer run, it was identical to the Model 55 pattern.

1985 *: The extraordinary M65A (or 65A-308) offered a special deep beavertail forend with a bipod. The ten-round magazine was in an additional wooden case, and the anatomical plastic pistol grip anchored a tubular metal pod that ended in an adjustable shoulder pad. A wooden comb block could be pushed along the shaft tube if necessary.

Production continued at the Tikka site in Tikkakoski until 1989. The M658 (from 1986) and the M658 Mag (from 1986) were also manufactured there for this model series. From 1989 production was relocated to Sako's location in Riihimäki and continued with the M658, M690 and M695 models.

The model series were known for their precision, good quality and workmanship. In the USA these models were also known as "Ithaca LSA 55" and "Ithaca LSA 65". Mounting rails for target optics were already available in these models. The gun barrels were supplied by Bofors and were also known for their good quality. In the early 1980s, Tikka, also known as " Oy Tikkakoski Ab ", cooperated with Sako. The successor models M558 and M658 were also created on this basis. It is known that the magazines and other components are compatible with the M658 M690 M695 series. The current model Tikka T3 is the current successor in the Tikka Tx series, which is still in production today. Sako has been part of the Beretta Group since the 2000s ; the current weapon models are still made in Finland.
