Tilia tuan is a plant species nativeto China from the genus of the linden ( Tilia ) in the family of the mallow family (Malvaceae).

description

Tilia tuan is a deciduous tree that reaches heights of 10 to 20 meters. The bark is gray. The bark of the branches is smooth or hairy. The stalked leaves are simple. The smooth or hairy petiole is 1 to 6 cm long. The narrow, egg-shaped leaf blade is 6.5 to 17 inches long and 3.5 to 11 inches wide. The leaves are glabrous to hairy on the upper side, gray to brown hairy underneath. The leaf base is asymmetrical and more or less heart-shaped. The leaf margin is smoothly serrated or serrated, especially near the leaf tip. On both sides of the leaf midrib, 3 to 11 leaf veins run .

Three to 22 flowers are grouped together in a zymous inflorescence that is about 3 to 14 centimeters tall. The hairy to smooth bract is 6 to 16 by 1 to 3 centimeters in size. The bract is fused with the smooth to hairy inflorescence stem over about half of its length. The flower stalk is 4 to 9 mm in size. The hermaphrodite, radially symmetrical flowers are five-fold. The five hairy sepals are 4 to 6 millimeters in size. The five smooth petals are 6 to 8 millimeters in size and nailed short. A total of 35 to 50 stamens stand together in five bundles . There are five staminodes . The egg-shaped ovary is hairy. The smooth stylus is 3 to 4 millimeters long.

The more or less spherical fruits have a diameter of 7 to 11 millimeters, are not ribbed and hairy gray to brown.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 164.

Systematics and distribution

There are three varieties of the species Tilia tuan :

  • Tilia tuan var. Chenmoui (WCCheng) Y.Tang ( Syn .: Tilia chenmoui W.C.Cheng ): It grows in forests on the river banks of western Yunnan (Binchuan) at altitudes between 2100 and 2400 meters.
  • Tilia tuan var. Chinensis (Szyszył.) Rehd. & EHWilson (Syn .: Tilia miqueliana var. Chinensis Szyszył. , Tilia oblongifolia var. Sangzhiensis B.R. Liao & WXWang. ): It grows in the Chinese provinces of Guizhou, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Sichuan and Zhejiang.
  • Tilia tuan var. Tuan (Syn .: Tilia angustibracteata Hung T.Chang , Tilia gracilis Hung T.Chang , Tilia hupehensis W.C.Cheng ex Hung T.Chang , Tilia integerrima Hung T.Chang , Tilia mesembrinos Merrill , Tilia mofungensis Chun & HDWong , Tilia oblongifolia Rehder , Tilia obscura Handel-Mazzetti , Tilia omeiensis Fang , Tilia tristis Chun ex Hung T.Chang , Tilia tuan var. Engler ): It grows in forests in the provinces of Guangxi, Guizhou, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Yunnan and Zhejiang at altitudes between 1200 and 2000 meters.
