Till Lufft

Till Lufft (born December 19, 1940 in Zurich ) is a lawyer , athlete and sports official .

Life

Lufft grew up in Zurich and Braunschweig , where he graduated from high school in 1960. He studied law at the University of Göttingen and was also active as a student national player in hockey and at the BTHC Braunschweig in the top German league and as a long-distance runner . He was also the person responsible for foreign students in the university's immigration office. After the First State Exam in 1970, he completed his legal clerkship in Darmstadt , joined the ASC Darmstadt and in 1974 respectively with the team both German champion in cross-country running and the marathon -Mannschaft. He belonged to Walter Weba's training group, in which Lutz Philipp , Günter Mielke and Arnd Krüger trained, among others .

Immediately after the second state examination in law , he became the general secretary of the General German University Sports Association , which he remained for 21 years. His predecessors included u. a. Walther Tröger . In this capacity he brought about the anchoring of university sport as a company sport in the university framework law , he organized the student world championships in 1989 in Duisburg and organized the German unity in university sport . Since 1994 Lufft has been technical delegate for athletics at FISU , the international student sports association, where he was specifically responsible for cross-country running. He was made an honorary member of the ADH .

In 1994 he moved to the top of the European Athletic Association (EAA) as Secretary General , which he remained until his retirement in 2005. During his tenure there were two European championships and a large number of European Cup competitions, in which he represented the association's interests vis-à-vis the local organizers. Since 1972 he has been a member of the board of directors of ASC Darmstadt, since 1986 the 2nd chairman and since 2006 the chairman. Since 2006 he has also been the chairman of the South Hesse section of the German Olympic Society .

His best times were over 3000 m (8: 09.2), over 5000 m (14: 13.4), over 10,000 m (29: 34.4), in the 3000 m obstacle course (9: 01.6) and in the marathon (2:25:28).
