Lutz Philipp

Lutz Philipp (born October 14, 1940 in Königsberg ; † February 1, 2012 in Darmstadt ) was a German long-distance runner .

Act

Lutz Philipp was German champion 24 times, including 21 times for ASC Darmstadt . In 1964 he retired from the Olympic Games in Tokyo over 5000 meters in the run.

In the following year he first set a DLV record with 28: 44.8 min over 10,000 meters and then achieved a week after winning his first German championship title over the same distance on August 12 in Augsburg with 28:35 , 6 min an all-German record. At the Universiade he won the silver medal over 5000 meters .

At the European Athletics Championships in Budapest in 1966 , he was twelfth over 10,000 meters. The following year he took bronze at the Universiade over the same distance.

In 1968 he set another DLV record over 10,000 meters on August 1 in Kassel with 28: 27.2 minutes, and at the Olympic Games in Mexico City he came in 23rd place in this discipline.

He was nominated for the European Athletics Championships in 1969 , but did not start because of the boycott of the DLV athletes.

In 1970 he won the Paderborn Easter run and then ran a DLV record in 2:15:23 h on his debut on the marathon distance on April 25 in Werther (Westphalia) . Another German record over 10,000 meters followed on June 24 with 28: 23.4 minutes. The following year he became German marathon champion and came seventh in the marathon of the European Championships in Helsinki .

In 1972 he won the Open British Championships with the all-German record of 2:12:50 h. After not getting past 32nd place in the marathon of the Olympic Games in Munich , he defended his national marathon title in the fall.

With 1: 15: 32.6 h on May 20, 1973, he set an all-German record in the 25,000-meter track, which was only broken in 1999 by Stéphane Franke . In September he became German marathon champion for the third time, and on October 14th, he set a DLV hourly record of 20,237 meters (the 20,000-meter intermediate time of 59: 20.2 minutes was also a German record).

With a fourth place at the German Marathon Championships in 1974 and a seventh in 1975, he let his high-performance sports career come to an end. He was active as a runner until old age, however, and won the first nine events of the Koberstädter Wald-Marathon from 1979 to 1987 (1985 with the current course record of 2:30:48 hours).

In addition to his three marathon titles, he was three times national champion over 10,000 meters (1965, 1967, 1972) and six times in the forest or cross-country run (1967, 1969-1973).

Lutz Philipp started for the LBV Phönix Lübeck until 1966 , then Helmut Meyer motivated him to change to the TH Darmstadt and to start for the ASC Darmstadt . By profession he was a senior teacher ( high school teacher ) in Darmstadt. He was trained by Walter Weba and based on the training of Ernst van Aaken .
