Till Velten

Till Velten (born May 24, 1961 in Wuppertal ) is a German artist.

Life

Velten studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and was a master student of Fritz Schwegler . In 2006/2007 he was a professor at the Kassel Art College . From 2008 to 2012 he headed the Fine Arts master's program at the HGK Lucerne . From 2013 to 2014 he held a project professorship at the HfG Karlsruhe and has so far held various visiting professorships in Berlin, Vienna and Zurich.

Work and reception

Veltens works are based on the conversation. Using interviews, which he sees as a means of exploring the world, he examines the social fabric of society. These discussions are often held over a longer period of time. The interviews that he conducts with representatives of professional groups, but also with collectors and hobby beekeepers, are transcribed or read by professional speakers in order to give them an exemplary form. Often times, diagrams illustrate the relationships of the explored community and its connection with the artist. Velten has been working with the social worker Manfred Seiler for seven years. For Velten, creating art means bringing people together and networking with others. He is convinced that artists today also have a social responsibility. Veltens ' work is influenced by Joseph Beuys ' concept of social sculpture and oral history .
