Till Zimmermann (born September 1, 1979 in Bonn ) is a German legal scholar and professor of criminal law and criminal procedure law, including European and international references.

life and work

Till Zimmermann was born on September 1, 1979 in Bonn. He passed his Abitur in 1999 at the Integrated Comprehensive School Bonn-Beuel . From 1999 to 2004 he studied law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 2004 Zimmermann passed his first state examination in Bonn.

In 2008 he received his doctorate - supported by a doctoral scholarship from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation - under Professor Urs Kindhäuser in Bonn. Topic of his dissertation: “Rescue killings. Investigations into the criminal law assessment of acts of killing in an emergency ”.

An internship (2007) in The Hague at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia initiated a long-lasting discussion of central questions of international criminal law, which were discussed in the much-discussed study “Faces of Evil. Lexicon of Crimes and Criminals of the 20th Century ”.

Till Zimmermann completed his legal traineeship from 2007 to 2009 in the OLG district of Cologne . a. at the German University for Administrative Sciences Speyer and at the Federal Criminal Police Office in Wiesbaden. In 2009 Zimmermann passed his second state examination. He then worked as a temporary academic advisor in the position of a research assistant with Professor Armin Engländer at the University of Passau (2009–2014) and the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (2014–2017).

At that time, Zimmermann was involved in the Young Forum for Legal Philosophy (JFR) in the International Association for Legal and Social Philosophy (IVR) and at the meetings of young criminal law scholars . His range of academic topics covered a wide range: from white collar crime to international criminal law to the role of criminal law in resolving difficult questions in political education.

In February 2017, Till Zimmermann completed his habilitation at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich with a legal theoretical and socio-philosophical thesis on the “injustice of corruption” and then received the qualification to teach criminal law, criminal procedural law, commercial criminal law and international criminal law. In the summer semester Zimmermann accepted a substitute chair at the University of Trier ; Appointed Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law, including European and international references, in Trier in July 2018.

Till Zimmermann is a Liaison Lecturer at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation . He is married and has three children.
