Tilly Wedekind , born in Tilly Newes , (born April 11, 1886 in Graz , Austria-Hungary , † April 20, 1970 in Munich , Germany ) was a German actress.

Life

In 1906, a year after she had met him professionally, she married the playwright Frank Wedekind, 22 years her senior, and had daughters Pamela and Kadidja with him . In 1907 the couple moved from Vienna to Munich.

She became known for her leading roles in her husband's plays, where she embodied his image of women. Pandora's Box , where she appeared in the role of Lulu , was controversial . Frank Wedekind died on March 9, 1918 at the age of 54, and Tilly Wedekind has now returned to classic stage roles, including the role of Maria Stuart . After her husband's death, Tilly Wedekind had a longstanding relationship with the poet Gottfried Benn . She also cultivated a friendship with the aviator Ernst Udet .

In 1970, the year she died, her autobiography was published and she was honored with the Schwabing Art Prize of the City of Munich (Honorary Prize).

Tilly Wedekind was buried in the forest cemetery in Munich (old part / grave no. 17-W-88).
