Tilmann Waldraff

Tilmann Waldraff (born December 30, 1937 in Geislingen an der Steige ) is a German cultural manager and Anglist . In the course of his life he headed several Goethe Institutes .

Life

Waldraff is the son of the painter and art educator Eduard Waldraff , a great-nephew of the creator of the postage stamp “ Germania with the tin breasts” Paul Waldraff .

In 1957 he passed the Abitur in Geislingen, then he did military service in Wetzlar , Munster and Husum . In 1958/59 he was a trainee in the graphics department of the Württemberg metal goods factory . 1959–1966 he studied English, German and philosophy at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and the Westphalian Wilhelms University . He completed his first MA at the University of Bochum in 1966 with Ulrich Suerbaum .

Since 1967 he has been a lecturer at the Goethe Institute in Prien am Chiemsee and Achenmühle , from 1968 to 1977 in Rio de Janeiro , most recently as head of the language department there. From 1977 to 1981 he headed the department for training and further education of the central administration of the Goethe-Institut in Munich. During this time he translated the Maria Callas discography "The Callas Legacy" by John Ardoin into German. 1981 to 1986 he was director of the Max Mueller Bhavan (Goethe-Institut) in Pune , India. We thank Waldraff for the generous support and organization of the International Symposium 100 years after Friedrich Max Müller . From 1987 to 1992 he was director of the Mexico City Institute and regional representative for the Spanish-Latin America-North region of the Goethe Institute. From 1992 to 1995 he headed the Goethe Institute Munich, Sonnenstrasse. From 1995 to 2002 he was director of the Max-Mueller-Bhavans (Goethe-Institut) New Delhi and regional representative for the South Asia region . He has been based in Laroque-Timbaut , south-west France and Munich since 2002 .

Together with the Punenser actor and organizer Mohan Agashe and the director of the Berlin GRIPS Theater , Volker Ludwig , he renewed the Indian children's theater with lasting success in several countries in South Asia. The “Who is Who” also notes successes in eventing and the award of the “Price for Excellence” in Delhi.

In his first marriage he was married to Ute Waldraff-Schnurbus, in the second with Janaki Narkar-Waldraff. He now lives with Edith Frank.
