Tim Carter (born October 5, 1967 in Bristol , † June 19, 2008 in Stretford ) was an English football player.

Tim Carter made his first team debut in 1985 at his home club Bristol Rovers . This year he was nominated three times in the English U17 selection. Christmas 1987 he moved to the then third division club Sunderland . Until 1992 he made 37 games and 13 cup games at the club, which was promoted to the first division. In 1988 it was awarded to Carlisle United and Bristol City , and in 1991 to Birmingham City . The highlight of Carter's career at Sunderland was the lost FA Cup final against Liverpool in 1992, in which his rival Tony Norman was in goal. The following two years Carter played for Hartlepool United , 1994/95 he was for Millwall FC , 1995 for Oxford United and again in the same year for Millwall, where he stayed until 1998. After the 1998/99 season, which he played for Halifax Town , he ended his career. In his athletic career, Carter completed 200 league games.

After his playing days, Carter was the first full-time goalkeeping coach at Sunderland FC and on a part-time basis for the Estonian national team .

On June 19, 2008, a pedestrian found the dead Carter in a bush, where he had apparently hanged himself.
