history

In 1854 Waterbury Clock was established in Waterbury in the Naugatuck River Valley . In the 19th century, this was the stronghold of US watch manufacturers. The sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first affordable pocket watch in 1880. The wristwatches produced quickly became popular during the First World War. In 1933, the company manufactured the first Mickey Mouse watch under license from Walt Disney .

During the Second World War the company was renamed the US Time Company .

In 1950 the "Timex" wristwatch was produced. In the following 30 years, sales of the watch increased to over a billion watches through spectacular commercials and popular advertising media. The advertising particularly emphasized the robustness of the watches. The company was renamed Timex Corporation , later Timex Group .

After the decline of the watch business in the 1970s, increased investments were made in the computer business in the 1980s. In a joint venture with the company Sinclair Research , home computers such as the "Timex Sinclair 1000" (replica of the Sinclair ZX81 ) were produced. Later the Timex Corporation gave up the construction of computers again, because they could not keep up with the rapid development and the watch production moved back into focus. Timex was able to expand its good position, especially in the United States and Canada. Timex produced u. a. for the fashion companies Guess , Nautica , Ecko , Opex and Versace watches.

In 2006 the company had 5,500 employees in the PR China , the Philippines , India , Canada , Great Britain , France and Mexico, among others .

Since 2007 it has been written on TX watches that part of the development of wrist watch movements is also taking place in Germany (Pforzheim). In the same year, the Swiss Sequel AG is founded with the brands "Guess" and "Gc".

At the beginning of 2015, the company presented its own smartwatch in cooperation with the telecommunications company AT&T .

In August 2019, Timex launched two models in collaboration with Supreme , which were limited to a certain number of pieces.

technology

In addition to technologies for special applications such as electronic compasses or sports equipment for heart rate measurement, Timex has its own technologies in the manufacture of watches, such as a perpetual calendar .
