Supreme is an American skateboard and clothing brand. It was founded in 1994 by the British James Jebbia in New York City .

In April 1994, Supreme founder James Jebbia, previously employed by the streetwear label Stüssy , opened the first of his own brand's twelve stores in New York. The store on Lafayette Street in Manhattan was set up so that skaters could drive straight into the store.

Four years later, three stores followed in the Japanese cities of Tokyo , Osaka and Fukuoka . In 2004, the second store in the USA opened in Los Angeles with around twice the size of the regular New York store. In the following years, two more stores opened in Japan in 2006 and 2008; in the Harajuku district of Tokyo and in Nagoya .

In 2011, the first Supreme store in Europe opened in London . A year later, the sixth store in Japan followed in the Shibuya district of Tokyo .

In 2016 the brand opened a store in Paris and a year later a second store in the founding city of New York in the Brooklyn borough . The brand's youngest and twelfth store to date opened its doors on October 24, 2019 in San Francisco .

In October 2017, the private holding company Carlyle Group acquired significant shares in the skateboard brand. It is said to be shares of around 50 percent, for which the financial investor Carlyle paid around 500 million US dollars. The value of the “Supreme” brand is estimated at over a billion US dollars.

Collaborations

Supreme is known for its collaborations with numerous skateboard and clothing brands. In addition to regular projects with Louis Vuitton, Nike , Vans , Clarks , The North Face , Hanes , Playboy , Levi's , Timberland , Coleman , Comme des Garçons , Stone Island and Champion, there are also collaborations with other brands and artists on various accessories and Develop other products besides clothing, such as a bicycle, bricks, a small motorcycle in collaboration with Coleman , a punching bag with Everlast or a mobile phone with BLU Products .

On January 18, 2017, the luxury brand Louis Vuitton also announced a collaboration with Supreme during a fashion show. Pop-up stores for this were opened on June 30, 2017 in Sydney , Seoul , Tokyo , Paris , London , Miami and Los Angeles .

In 2017, The Dapifer reported that Lacoste was also launching a joint men's collection with Supreme.

Supreme has been working with Hanes on a long-term basis to sell underwear, and the brand also sells skateboard parts with the skate brands Independent Trucks and Spitfire Wheels.

Supreme has previously released skateboard decks starring Harmony Korine , Rammellzee , Ryan McGinness , KAWS, Larry Clark , Jeff Koons , Richard Prince , Christopher Wool , Alessandro Mendini , Nate Lowman, Damien Hirst and John Baldessari . In addition, Supreme often works with photographers, artists, actors or athletes such as David Lynch , Robert Crumb , Marilyn Minter, Takashi Murakami , Daniel Johnston , Peter Saville , Futura, Bad Brains , Public Enemy , HR Giger , Mark Gonzales , MC Esher, Dash Snow or Nan Goldin together.
