Dash Snow (actually Dashiell A. Snow ; *  July 27, 1981 in New York City , †  July 13, 2009 there ) was an American artist , known for his photography , collages and sculptural installations.

Life

Dash Snow was the son of Taya Thurman (a half-sister of Uma Thurman ) and her former husband Chris Snow. As the great-grandson of Dominique de Ménil and John de Ménil, he came from a famous American patron dynasty, from which he turned away at an early age. He lived on the streets as a teenager.

Act

In addition to his work in the graffiti scene , the Polaroid photos taken in the New York underground are considered the beginning of his artistic career. The seemingly very spontaneous recordings primarily show young people having sex, drug consumption or as participants in orgies of violence in public spaces. As an important figure in the Bowery School on New York's Lower East Side , he began selling his photographs in 2005. In April 2006, the Wall Street Journal included his work in a list for promising investments in the art market. Outside the United States, he exhibited mainly in Berlin.

death

Dash died of a heroin overdose at Lafayette House, a Manhattan hotel .
