Timofei Alexandrovich Dokschizer ( Russian Тимофей Александрович Докшицер ., Scientific transliteration Timothy Aleksandrovič Dokšicer * 13. December 1921 in Nezhin , Chernigov Governorate , Ukrainian SSR ; † 16th March 2005 in Vilnius , Lithuania ) was Russian - Soviet trumpeter , conductor and composer Ukrainian Origin.

biography

Born in 1921, the musician was the son of a musical autodidact , was admitted to an army wind orchestra as a pupil in 1931 and, since 1933, studied at the Glazunov Music School with Anton Wassilewski , who was then the solo trumpeter of the Bolshoi Theater . From 1935 he was taught by Vasilevkis Mikhail Tabakov's successor , first at the Central Music School in Moscow and later at the Gnessin Music Academy . The meeting with the composer Wladimir Peskin , who wrote a series of works for him from 1937 onwards of unprecedented difficulty, was important for Dokschizer's development . From 1941 to 1987 Timofei Dokschizer was the solo trumpeter of the Bolshoi Orchestra. In 1952 he attended the conducting class of the Moscow Conservatory and in 1957 passed his exam there as an orchestra conductor with Ginsburg.

In the course of his life, Dokschizer created over 80 musical transcriptions and pieces for trumpet. In his hometown in Ukraine, a music school bears the name of the musician. In addition to his extensive repertoire, which, according to some experts, included practically everything there was for trumpets, he worked for 25 years as a professor at the State Music Education Institute.

Prizes and awards

At the age of 17 he won the Soviet Union competition, as well as an international competition in Prague in 1947.

Method book

In 1990 Timofei Dokschizer published a standard work on trumpet teaching in French under the title Method de Trompette . This work was translated into English by Wendy Thompsons in 1994.

Note on notation

The spelling of his name is different. For example, the first name even on publications is sometimes given with Timofey , the surname even with Dokschidzer , Dokschitzer , Dokshizer and Dokshitser .
