The diocese of Butus ( Italian diocesi di Buto , Latin Dioecesis Butiensis ) is a titular diocese of the Roman Catholic Church .

The former diocese belonged to the ancient city of the same name , on the south bank of Lake Butos, which stretched in the Roman province of Aegyptus or Aegyptus Iovia in the western Nile delta .

Excavations by the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo have already uncovered ruins of the Roman city complex, which extend over even older ruins of the ancient Egyptian city of Buto , as part of a research project.
