Titular Archdiocese of Lauriacum
The Archdiocese of Lauriacum ( Italian : arcidiocesi di Lauriaco , Latin Archidioecesis Lauriacensis ) is a titular archbishopric of the Roman Catholic Church .
It goes back to an earlier archbishopric of the ancient city of Lauriacum in the Roman province of Noricum (today Lorch in Upper Austria ). It might be a little structured mission diocese acted that of Aquileia was founded here, and with the relocation of the capital of Noricum of Teurnia (in Carinthia, diocese Tiburnia ) to Ovilava (catfish) at the Limes there arrived. In the turmoil of the Great Migration Period, it disappeared sometime after the Romans withdrew in 488, and was only replaced around 700 by the Baier and Iro-Scottish missions (dioceses of Salzburg and Passau ).
Namely known bishops of Lauriacum are:
- St. Maximilian of Celeia († around 284), according to legend, first bishop
- Constantius von Lauriacum (5th century), head of the community in Enns mentioned in the Vita Severini
